Krishna Gaur faces tough fight in Govindpura

Saturday, 17 November 2018 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

One of the most controversial seats of Bhopal State Assembly constituency, Govindpura which was bastion of the BJP has become a tough contest after the opposition of BJP nominee Krishna Gaur.

Senior BJP leaders failed to persuade to handle the situation as former CM and senior BJP leader Babulal Gaur remained adamant on contesting the election and finally got ticket for her daughter-in-law Krishna Gaur.

Former Mayor and BJP candidate from Govindpura Krishna Gaur said that it is a big constituency and after withdrawal there are still 17 candidates including eight independents, contesting from here. The independents would be persuaded to withdraw from the contest even without withdrawing the nomination papers, they could support BJP.

Shouldered with the responsibility of taking legacy of former CM and veteran BJP leader Babulal Gaur, Krishna Gaur was firm in maintaining that people are with BJP and development of the state government is visible, feasible and sustainable which do not require BJP to act in lunatic manner to woo voters like AAP or Congress.

She shied away from local issues but was aware as she had a successful term as city Mayor and her experience would come handy after winning the contest.

Beyond doubt people would vote for political legacy created by Babulal Gaur in the past 50 years and it is also true that Krishna Gaur has political clout but still she has to prove the mettle at state assembly level and which is why this is the testing time for her.

Congress candidate Girish Sharma backed by good work in his ward and beyond his ward would work in his favour. He said that the work in the constituency by BJP has lead to number of problems which would be addressed. The work as corporator would lead his way to victory. The slogan ‘Neta nahi Beta Chahiye’ is attractive and extensive campaigning would make difference. Vinita Chandani of Sonagiri said that he has worked for the ward and he had even helped residents of our locality who are not even part of his ward.

On the contrary, a retired engineer from BHEL welcomed Sharma wholeheartedly said, “Our family would vote for Gaur family as the family has done loads of work for the constituency. Interestingly his son was classmate of Sharma but which fails to change his political inclination.
