Labourer arrested for rape bid on 26-year-old lawyer

Tuesday, 25 September 2018 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

A horrific incident of attempt to rape came to light when a 26-year-old woman advocate wrote a series of posts which went viral on the social media narrating her narrow escape from being sexually assaulted in a park in Amar Colony.  She also alleged police officials of being insensitive in handling her case. The accused, a labourer, was arrested the same day on September 20 last.

According to the complainant, she was walking towards central park in Amar Colony when someone grabbed her and dragged her inside the park. She wrote, “This Park is not easy to enter as it has a two fenced door.

In a few seconds I was inside the park and this man was holding my waist approaching me for some sexual act. I tried to take his hands off and smacked his face hard. It was pitch-dark, I couldn’t see.”

She further stated that the man allegedly hit her back and she fell on the ground. She then switched her flashlight on. “I finally got up.  I rushed towards him and I held his t-shirt by the collar to see his face with the flash at him; I hit his face hard.

“I was still shouting at him. He pushed me again and I fell on the bushes and he started to walk away. I clicked his picture and ran behind him to catch hold of him. I ran but he escaped the park by climbing up the wall,” she wrote.

The complainant narrated that she then went to Amar Colony Police Station to report the incident at around 7:40 pm to file an FIR and was made to wait for more than five hours.

“As I was a lawyer, I knew the procedure. I executed the arrest memo and signed the site plan at around 1.50 am. At 2 am still nothing. Got a photocopy with it done after I told the Station House Master (SHO) I won’t go without an FIR.”

Meanwhile, the accused was caught when they went to the park to make a site plan. When they reached the park, they asked the guards to open the gate, she stated that the man was inside the park.

She shouted and thepolice staff caught the accused. She wrote that she was shocked and couldn’t believe “he came back to do this to someone else.”

A senior police official said the complaint of woman lawyer against the police personnel is being enquired into and suitable action will be taken if anything of this nature comes out during it.
