Land main hurdle in Boudh, Subarnapur

Wednesday, 19 September 2018 | PNS | SONEPUR

The Balangir-Khurda Rail Project Action Committee has expressed concern over inordinate delay inimplementing the project.

The members from Boudh, Balangir and Subarnapur districts took part in a discussion over the fate of the project, which is the lifeline of the area.

The BJP, Congress and BJD unitedly agreed to fight for the project and also shared their views over the issue. It was decided that a core committee would be formed to raise the issue at the party level and also put forth the demand.

Sources said the project had got the approval of the President in 1994 and its work started in 2007. But unfortunately, due to the want of political will, the budgetary allocation became negligible affecting the project’s progress. Only in the last two budgets, the project’s allocations have been satisfactory. However, hurdles such as land acquisition have hindered the work.

Activist Ghasiram Panda said that land acquisition is the biggest hurdles causing delay of the project, especially in Boudh and Subarnapur districts.

Land acquisition is going on at 14 villages out of 30 villages in Subarnapur district and at the rest 16, it is yet to begin. In Boudh district, the land acquisition has not begun at 102 villages. But there is no need for land acquisition to construct bridges over rivers, rivulets and other small water bodies, he added.

Sonepur Action Committee president Shyama Om Prasad Mishra coordinated the programme. Activists such as Bhabani Satpathy from Balangir, Debasish Purohit from Boudh, social activist Gobinda Maharana, BJP leader Baldev Bedbak and PCC member Jitendra Pattnayak from Sonepur were present.
