The demise of former Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Narayan Dutt Tiwari spread a wave of grief in his home district Nainital and other parts of the State.
All India Congress Committee general secretary and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that Tiwari’s demise had left void which would be impossible to fill. “Blessed with an uncommon personality, he laid a strong foundation for Uttarakhand as its Chief Minister. He was an epitome of simplicity and development,” added Rawat.
Leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha and Haldwani MLA, Indira Hridayesh expressed deep grief at Tiwari’s demise. “Known popularly as Vikas Purush, Tiwari left his stamp on every area in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
During personal interactions he used to encourage all to acquire more knowledge. Due to poverty, he took a loan of Rs 5 from a friend of his father and reached Allahabad where he stayed at Anand Bhawan to complete his studies in Allahabad University.
There, as the student union leader, he was the first to remove the Union Jack and hoist the Indian Tricolour in its place. The State of Uttarakhand will always remain indebted to him for the development works he had initiated here,” she said.
