Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal directed the Delhi Police to train its officers in soft skills to improve public interface on Thursday.
Baijal also instructed the force to set up its own online portal for receiving and monitoring public grievances. The directions were issued at a meeting on the issue of law and order, chaired by the L-G. The meeting was attended by Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and other senior officers of the force.
Baijal said specially designed/task oriented postpaid feedback forms should be used by police so as to have an objective assessment which could form the basis of further modification as per the needs of society, the statement stated.
Delhi Police made a detailed presentation in this regard and informed L-G that it has established a structural mechanism for complaints resolution at police headquarter, sub division and police station level.
There is a specialised vigilance unit established in every district for handling complaints against police personnel, it said.
L-G was further informed that public facilitation desks have also been set up in police stations to assist public. In the meeting, he was informed by police officers that a WhatsApp mobile number '9910641064' is also available for the public to send images, audios and videos of any corrupt practices.
The L-G further said that public grievances redressal is an important aspect of policing which requires review and monitoring of grievances on a continuous basis at all levels.
He stressed that that efforts should be made to resolve all the complaints in time.
