Special Police Establishment (SPE) of Lokayukta caught an Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Tax (Tax Audit Wing) Vishal Meda accepting Rs 50,000 from a petrol pump operate to adjust tax of Rs 10 lakh; action was taken in the morning on Tuesday.
The victim Deepak Kori runs a petrol pump in Ashta and was having a tax liability of Rs 10 lakh which was actually Rs 6 lakh according to him and when he went to discuss the issue at the office the accused Assistant Commissioner Vishal told him that the amount would be reduced but he had to pay Rs 1 lakh in return of the settlement of the tax.
Lokayukta DSP Naveen Awasthi said that the victim Deepak Kori was told by accused Meda to provide Rs 1 lakh for facilitating deduction in the tax over the sale at petrol pump.
Later the accused agreed on Rs 80000. The victim was asked to shed money on November 18 but he decided to lodge complaint and based on the complaint he provided Rs 10000 on Monday. On Tuesday victim had gone with the money to the Bittan Market office of the accused and when he was accepting the money Rs 50000 from victim he was caught red-handed.
After the preliminary investigation a case under sections 7 and 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act and started further investigation.
