The Block Grant teachers under the banner the All Odisha School and College Teachers’ and Employees’ United Forum organised an all-party meeting at Anla, 50 km from here.
Apart from BJP and Congress leaders, many educationists, social activists and students and their guardians attended the meeting and extended their support to the teachers’ cause.
Teacher-leaders like Kishor Kumar Acharya, Gopi Ballabh Bhuyan and Bijay Kumar Pandit coordinated the programme. Others who attended the meeting include BJP leaders Pradeep Mohanty and Sanatan Bijuli and Congress leader Madhabi Senapati.
Notably, the Block Grant teachers of Mayurbhanj district during the last fewdays held rallies throughout the district as a mark of protest against the State Government’s indifference towards their demands. They made the common people aware of an educational crisis looming in the State and sought their support.
For over a month, they resorted to demonstrations and held bike/bicycle rallies and street corner meetings, apart from panchayat level gatherings.
