A dead body of an elderly man was found on the sea beach near Shree Chitanya Chhak here on Tuesday. The identity of the deceased was yet to be ascertained.
Sources said some locals first spotted the body and informed police. While the reason behind the death was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that the man, aged around 60-70 years, might have come to the pilgrim town for a darshan of the Lords.
Police reached the spot, seized and sent the body to hospital for postmortem. Registering an unnatural death case, the police began an investigation into the incident.
In a separate incident, a body of a 65-year-old man was found floating in the Jambira river near Gholamuhan under Morada block of Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Baidhar Hembram of Bhorungasula village under the Suliapada police station in the district.
On Monday, Hembram had left the house saying he was going to his in-law’s house in the Chitrada police station area, said his family members.
Police reached the spot and initiated an inquiry into the incident.
