Uttarakhand police have arrested a person who allegedly posed as a PCS officer and duped a civil contractor on Wednesday. It is learnt that he had embarked on the fraud after he failed to qualify Provincial Civil Services (PCS) examination.
Informing, the Superintendent of Police (SP) city, Dehradun Pradeep Rai said while talking to the media persons on Wednesday that the police had acted after receiving complaint from one Omveer Singh, a resident of Sahatradhara Road area, that he had been duped by one Sudhanshu Pandey who had introduced himself as PCS officer posted in Uttarakhand secretariat.
In his complaint, Singh said that he had given Pandey a sum of Rs 20,000 for making a labour license. Similarly, a sum of Rs 1.40 lakh and Rs 56,000 had been demanded by Pandey from Singh for awarding a tender, the complaint ran.
The contractor had turned suspicious when he found that the licence issued to him was fake following which he lodged a complaint with police.
The SP city Pradeep Rai said that given the sensitivity of the issue, the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dehradun, Nivedita Kukreti had directed a team headed by Mussoorie circle officer to nab the accused.
The police team arrested Pandey on Wednesday. The police also recovered many seals and forged documents from his possession. On interrogation, Pandey is believed to have confessed his involvement in the fraud.
