Returning from the executive committee meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) held recently in London, the Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha Speaker Premchand Agrawal said that it was a matter of pride that for the first time an Assembly speaker from Uttarakhand represented Indian region in the CPA meeting at the international level.
Agarwal said that 35 members from across the world had attended the CPA meeting with the Indian region being represented by himself and Assam assembly speaker Hitendra Nath.
Indian region was specially congratulated for being included as a new member of the executive committee. It was also decided that while the next CPA conference will be held in Uganda, a youth parliament is also proposed to be held in India during 2019.
The executive committee also issued a statement regarding the current scenario in Sri Lanka opining that the constitutional situation in that nation should be resolved within the bounds of parliamentary and constitutional tenets so that the level of democratic values can also be kept high.
