Under the ongoing campaign of 'Swachhata hi Sewa', the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has now been conducting a cleanliness drive in the city. Into its fourth day on Tuesday, the drive would continue till October 2. The drive is not just meant to clean the city but also to create awareness among the residents of the city about the importance of cleanliness, the civic body officers said. They said that the cleanliness campaign is going on in every part of the city and besides the campaign, the MCD teams are engaged in rescuing the stray cattle and taking them to the shelters for the bovines. MCD in coordination with various NGOs and schools has been conducting the drive, the civic body officers said.
On Tuesday-the fourth day of the drive-,various places in the city like Canal Road, Haridwar Road, Nimbuvala and Khubuda Mahola have been cleaned of trash. In all, 21 trolleys, three dumpers and two JCB have been used during the drive on the day, informed the MCD officials, adding that four persons have been slapped with fines for dirtying public places.
They, further, said that on the first four days of the drive, the cleanliness staffers have cleaned various parts of the city like Indiranagar, Parade Ground, Ring Road, Nehru Colony, Mohini Road, Balbir Road, Vidya Vihar and Ganesh Vihar. Besides, 24 stray cattle found roaming round the roads have been taken to shelters meant to house them. Moreover, nine people have been slapped with fines after they were caught throwing garbage on the roads. Trash from 12 areas has also been collected. The sanitation workers also urged the residents to dump the garbage at the right places. A senior civic body officer said that the kids would also be involved in the cleanliness drive.
