Regarding news about BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi distributing cash among women during Chhath festivity, the party’s State media in-charge Devendra Bhasin has questioned the allegations of election model code of conduct being violated.
He said that Joshi was simply following the Hindu tradition of distributing shagun on the occasion of Chhath while members of the Congress and some others linked it to distribution of money during election, which is condemnable. Bhasin said that according to tradition, on the occasion of Chhath, women apply tilak on the foreheads of their brothers, who in turn present dakshina to them.
In the eastern part of north India, this practice is popular like the custom of brothers presenting gifts to sisters who tie rakhis on their wrists on the occasion of Rakshabandhan. The BJP state media in charge further said that Congress leaders and others attempting to distort the observance of a sacred tradition should apologise if they possess even a little bit of morality.
The BJP fully respects constitutional institutions and rules. The party workers have full faith in the election commission and the model code of conduct.
Factually, it is clear in the video that Joshi offered the present only to those women who applied tilak on him. He has been participating in this custom for many years now, added Bhasin.
