With only a few months to go for the Assembly elections in Odisha, BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik has once again emerged as the number 1 choice as Chief Minister with highest per cent of popularity in the State.

This is revealed in a survey conducted by English magazine ‘India Today’. Patnaik scored high on popularity with 59 per cent of the respondents.

Amidst lots of criticism from opposition parties’ leaders over several issues and his Government’s alleged failure in executing the Central schemes, Patnaik continues to woo people with several developmental projects, anti-poverty programmes and welfare schemes undertaken by his Government.

According to the survey, while 44 per cent of the respondents are satisfied with the performance of the Patnaik Government, only 19 per cent showed dissatisfaction with the BJD regime.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has been trying to take credits for the Centrally-sponsored developmental projects in the State, is placed second in terms of popularity with 21 per cent.

Giving a big thumb up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 54 per cent of Odisha people want him voted to the office in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls while Congress president Rahul Gandhi received only 21 per cent votes for the next PM.

The survey was conducted on the basis of telephonic interviews across the 21 Lok Sabha seats with a sample size of 8,232 as the respondents.

Similarly, the survey in other States reveals that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is favourite for the post as 38 percent people are satisfied with performance of his Government.

However, the study shows that Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das’ popularity is on the decline. Only 34 per cent people in Jharkhand are happy with his Government while 33 per cent are dissatisfied.
