The former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Narayan Dutt Tiwari’s mortal remains were cremated will full State honours at Chitrashila Ghat on the banks of the Gaula river in Ranibagh here on Sunday. A large number of people, apart from Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers and politicians from various parties were among those present on the occasion. Tiwari’s funeral procession began from the circuit house to the Chitrashila Ghat where his son Rohit Shekhar Tiwari lit the pyre.
Earlier, Chief Minister, Trivendra Singh Rawat, paying tribute to Tiwari, said that he used to work above party lines and will be remembered for his developmental works. He said that the present State Government will take forward the works carried out by him. Calling him the Bhishma Pitamah of politics, Rawat said that Tiwari will always be remembered as a popular leader.
Vidhan Sabha Speaker Premchand Aggarwal said that Tiwari was a ‘political guru’ and his demise has caused an irreparable loss to the country and society.
Union Minister of State for Textiles Ajay Tamta, MPs and ex CMs Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Ramesh Pokhriyal, Finance Minister Prakash Pant, Transport Minister Yashpal Arya, Agriculture Minister Subodh Uniyal, Cooperative Minister Dhan Singh Rawat, Women Welfare and Child Development Minister Rekha Arya, former CM and AICC general secretary Harish Rawat, leader of opposition Indira Hridayesh, BJP State president Ajay Bhatt various MLAs and members of the public paid their last respects to the veteran leader on the occasion. The general public were allowed to pay their tributes to the departed leader at circuit house.
