OHRC directs Angul SP to take action in 5 cases

The Odisha Human Rights Commission has issued an order to the Angul SP to take appropriate action

in five different cases filed on different dates by Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain at the NHRC, which have now been transferred to the OHRC.

A case filed on May 31, 2016, Swain had alleged that Manashi Tripathy of Angul was physically misbehaved and tortured due to raising voice on corruption of Rs  55 lakh in the Odisha Jibika Mission and police didn’t taken any action on her the victim’s complaint. Swain had sought action against the accused and compensation of Rs  2 lakh for the victim.

Another case filed by swain on June 19, 2016, Swain had alleged that 40,000 unemployed victims had been cheated by the Biju Pattnaik University of Technology (BPUT) by taking money/bribe for providing appointment to them and the police didn’t taken any action. She prayed for action against negligent police and compensation of Rs  5 lakh for each victim.

On the same day, she had petitioned that SC and ST persons Bikram Kisan, Agasti Sahoo, Suresh Patra and Dashara Bhuyan of Baeshana village under Handapa police station were severely tortured and beaten with iron rod by the owner of the brick factory and police didn’t take any action in the case.

She had urged for immediate criminal action against the accused and compensation of Rs  2 lakh to the victim.

She had also filed another case on June 19, 2016, alleging that Prakash Chandra Sethy of the Forest Training College, Angul was severely tortured and beaten and police didn’t register an FIR.

She had prayed to take immediate criminal action against the accused and to provide compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the victim.

A case filed on June 25, 2016 had alleged that Rajib Luha of Manpur under Kishorenagar police station had been hospitalized after being severely tortured and beaten by police and no FIR registered in the case.

The petitioner had urged the commission to take immediate criminal action against the accused and compensation of Rs  5 lakh to the victim.
