Sleuths of Central Excise seized opium worth over Rs 1.07 crore in the international market from two smugglers in Barabanki late on Sunday night.
Official sources said on Monday that a man and his nephew were bringing around 71.5 kilograms of opium on their vehicle when the sleuths intercepted them near Barabanki toll plaza on Lucknow-Gorakhpur national highway on Sunday night.
The contraband is worth Rs 1.07 crore in international market.
The arrested drug smugglers were identified as Satnam Singh and his nephew Bittu Singh of Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh. During interrogation, the duo admitted that they were bringing the opium from Siliguri in West Bengal and were to deliver it in the NCR (National Capital Region).
