Seeks Rs 10L for each deceased’s family

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Niranjan Patnaik, who is on a three-day visit to the Cyclone Titli and floods-affected districts, on Tuesday demanded that the family of each deceased person be paid Rs 10- lakh compensation soon.

On Monday, he visited Brahmapur and nearby areas and talked to the affected families. On Tuesday, he visited Machmara, Busukudi, Tatikati, Gurundi, Bhasuni, Gangabad, Labanyakotta, Saanpada, Rampa, Barunei and Kainpur gram panchayats under Parlakhemundi and Mohana Assembly constituencies in Gajapati district and took stock of damages caused by the cyclone and subsequent rains.

He met some deceased’s’ family members and consoled them.

“Media reports said 24 people have died so far and the number is expected rise. Thousands of families have lost everything.

If the Government had planned and prepared itself on the basis of information of the Met department, this huge destruction could have been avoided,” Patnaik said and demanded that the State Government pay a minimum of Rs 10 lakh to family of each deceased persons.

He also demanded that the Government continue relief and primary rehabilitation work on war-footing in affected areas and prepare an accurate report of destruction and give compensation accordingly.

The BJD Government should come forward to reconstruct the devastated areas without having any political agenda, advised the PCC chief.
