Police Commemoration Day observed in Bokaro

Bokaro Superintendent of Police Kartik S said that the National Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21 remembering the brave policemen who sacrificed their lives while discharging their duties. Rich tributes are paid to the martyrs on this day.

The SP paid tributes to 20 martyred police personnel in Bokaro, who were killed on duty specially in Naxal operations in Bokaro over the past 18 years.Their sacrifices couldn't be forgotten, added the SP.

He showed his condolences on the solemn occasion at the Police Memorial in Bokaro. Senior police officers and various other police in-charge were reportedly present on the occasion to pay respect and homage to the martyrs.

 The Inspector cum Officer-in Charge Prameshwar Leyangi of Bokaro thermal police station and others police officials observed police commemoration Day.

Floral tributes to all 20 police personnel who lost their lives in Naxal operations were paid by officers.

They also observed two minutes silence. All police stations of Bokaro including Nawadih, Gandhinagar, Gomia, Paterwar, Mahuatard, Jaridih, Kasmar, sector IV,Chas, sector IX, and others were also observed Commemoration Day and paid floral tributes.

Police sources said that on October 21, 1959, twenty Indian soldiers were attacked by the Chinese troops in Ladakh.

This altercation between the troops led to the death of ten policemen. Seven of the others who were also imprisoned, managed to escape from the Chinese troops.

On November 28, 1959, the Chines troops handed over the dead bodies of the martyred policemen to India. Their cremation was held with full Police honours at the Hot springs in Ladakh.

Ever since the incident, this day on October 21 is observed for their martyrdom.
