Police on toes to ensure peaceful Karma, Muharram

DGP DK Pandey on Tuesday asserted that Jharkhand police was better prepared than ever to ensure peace during the Karma and Muharram.

In a meeting held with the various religious groups DGP DK Pandey stated police have taken several measures including undertaking drive against anti-social elements, deployment of additional women police force, possessing video recording teams and intensification of patrolling to become a stronger force this year.

He appealed to the representatives of different groups to observe the festival in harmony and present an example of unity before others.

While assuring the DGP of their resolve to maintain peace the central Muharram committee members said that they would try their best to end their procession and weapon games as early as possible on September 22 in view of the visit of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ranchi on September 23.

It may be stated here in Ranchi district police would mobilize the same force posted for religious function for security during PM’s visit.  Ranchi Mahnagar Sarv Dharma Sadbavna Samiti, Mahanagar Central Muharram Committee Ranchi Mahanagar Shree Durga Puja Samiti and representatives from the rural areas participated in the meeting.

Meanwhile, district administration is holding regular peace committee meetings to ensure law and order during the religions functions.

“The district administration is talking all precautionary measures to ensure peace during the religious functions. Magistrates with police force would be stationed at sensitive places during the festival. The peace committee meetings are being held at police station levels,” said the Sadar SDO Manoj Kumar Ranjan.

Kotwali DSP informed that peace committee meeting has already been held in Pandra and Daily market area.

“We are cautioning the leading persons of each locality to resolve minor disputes on the spot while asking them to refer the major ones to the senior officials immediately. Police are also asked them to check the spread of rumours,” the DSP said.

He said that quick reaction teams have been posted at police station. He said police would be present in the front and the back of the processions to guide them towards their destination.

It may be noted here the central peace committee chaired by the Ranchi DC Rai Mahimapat Ray and the SSP Anis Gupta was held at collectorate recently. The district administration has appealed to the participants to reach at an understanding on the timing of the processions. The officials cautioned that such weapons that could cause damage should not be given in hands of minors.
