The Nalco has planned to hand over paper and cloth bags and aluminium foil packs as substitute to polythene to the Puri district administration, said Nalco CMD Dr TK Chand.
“This initiative would be a part of the Rs160 crore project being carried out by the company to develop and promote Puri as a Swachh iconic shrine,” informed Dr Chand. He said this while inaugurating a national symposium on ‘Polythene Environment and Human Health,’ organised by the socio-cultural organisation Nirmalya, in association with RSKS (DU) here.
A people’s campaign to make Puri as a polythene-free iconic place was launched on the occasion.
Also, as the Chairman of CII, Odisha Dr Chand urged the industries to come forward to extend their support in this campaign.
Dr Chand expressed concern over the adverse impacts of the excessive usage of polythene and plastics.
The Nalco has imposed restriction on usage of plastic bags in its premises, informed Dr Chand.
