Punjab Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Monday directed Deputy Registrars of all the districts to channelise all their energies on the financial resuscitation of the cooperative societies. The directions were issued by the Minister while chairing a meeting of all the Regional Officers of the Department.
On the occasion, the State Additional Chief Secretary (Cooperation) and Agriculture Viswajeet Khanna, said that Markfed and IFFCO jointly supply 50 per cent fertilizers through the Cooperation Department whereas in the distribution of agricultural chemicals, this share comes down to less than 10 per cent.
“That makes it important that the top quality agricultural chemicals manufactured by the international companies and accredited by the Punjab Agriculture University (PAU), which are in great demand by the farmers, must be made available through Markfed to the cooperative societies along with the products manufactured by the Markfed,” said Khanna.
