Punjab Edu Dept sanctions Rs 3 cr for promoting sports culture in primary schools

To create and promote sports culture in the state’s government schools, Punjab Government would allocate 15 percent sports funds on the primary school games.

Announcing this, the state Education Minister OP Soni on Sunday said that the Education Department would ensure that the budding players get all kind of support and training in schools so as to create a sports-friendly environment in schools.

Soni, while addressing the gathering after inaugurating Punjab inter-district primary school games, said that the Department has sanctioned Rs three crore to facilitate 5,000 participants at these school games, under which the Department would provide quality diet during the games.

Besides, the players would also get track suits and sports kits, he said.

Advocating to strengthen the basic infrastructure at primary schools to provide suitable platform to the budding players, the Minister said that it was for the first time that such kind of primary school games are being organised at large scale.
