PWDs taken special care to vote

Paving way for comfortable and easy casting of vote by Person with Disability (PWD), the district administrations across the 72 assembly constituencies  ensured that they did not face any problem  on Tuesday. The scout and guides and National Service Scheme volunteers also helped them with their transportation.

Special vehicles called ‘Divyang Rath’ vehicles to transport the PWDs were arranged so that they can be picked up and dropped back to their residence after voting.

Additional to it, at polling centres, ramps and wheel chairs were made available for them including for the elderly citizens. This arrangement had helped a large number of them to cast their vote during the second phase of polling across the state.

Meanwhile, report from Kabirdham district states that district has registered 3958 PWDs in Kawardha and Pandariya assembly constituencies. Since, morning they arrived to cast their vote.

As per the directive of Election Commission of India, in 799 polling centres, arrangement for ramp was made.  As per details, ortho-related PWDs is 2789, visually impaired 499, dumb-deaf 596 and others are 74.

At Kawardha model polling centres, the PWDs were welcomed by applying vermilion (Tilak) on their forehead and felicitated. At village Panchayat Mahali in Pandariya assembly constituency, at Model Polling Centre also they were accorded warm welcome. District Electoral Officer Avnish Kumar Sharan had given the direction that all the officials on duty should ensure that PWDs reach the polling booth early.
