Alumni of PG Department of the English-1975 batch of Ravenshaw College (now a university) met here on Thursday.
This was a preliminary meet which was convened by Prof Santosh Bez, and Prof S Udgata. As many as 17 members attended the meet here.
An atmosphere of nostalgia was unmistakably discernible among the alumni. At the outset glowing tributes were paid to the memory of the departed souls of the veteran teachers of the Department like Prof Sarbeswar Dash, Prof BJB Mohapatra, Prof Sadananda Mishra and others.
A two- minute silent prayer was observed for the former students of the department who are no more.
Nageswar Rao, Pratap Mohanty, Jeetamitra Mohanty, Prof Sachidananda Tripathy, Prof Basanta Mishra, former top bank officers like Pradyota Mishra, Bibhuti Ray, Sahadev Das, and noted Indo-Anglican poet Raju Samal spoke on the occasion. It was decided that the next preparatory meet would be held on October 28.
Prominent among others present were Ashok Das, Sakhil Rehman, Jai Gobinda Nayak, Nimai Ray, former bureaucrat Rabi Nanda, eminent advocate Alekh Nayak, Dr Bhagabat Nath, former RBI officer Golak Biswal and senior journalist Sugyan Choudhury.
It was also decided to invite Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, an alma mater of the department, to a splendid final meet to be held in November.
