Rayagada Collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar received a national award from Union Minister for Rural Development Narendra Singh Tomar and Secretary Amarjeet Sinha for effective implementation of MGNREGS.
On September 11, at a ceremony, the Union Rural Development Ministry distributed 228 awards as a mark of appreciation on the service delivery front by the administration. There were 18 awards in the category of effective implementation of MGNREGS out of which Odisha bagged two, one for Rayagada and the other for Kandhamal.
In fact, Odisha stood third as far as transparency and accountability in MGNREGS implementation is concerned. In Geo-MGNREGA initiative, Boudh district received the third prize.
Hatitota panchayat of Polasara block in Ganjam district was awarded for best performing GP in MGNREGS. So, out of 228 awards, Odisha won four in total.
During Guha’s regime for last two years, the district also got a pat on its back for rehabilitation of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and execution of the Gramin Awas Yojana.
“We are extremely proud for the national level appreciation conferred on the district under the leadership of Collector Guha. The team under her has to fulfil other challenges too,” said Bijaya Mishra, an expert on the MGNREGA.
