With a change in climate, dengue fever has again started to spread its wingsin Bokaro, Presently four suspected patients have been admitted in theisolation ward at Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) and private nursinghomes, they are kept under observation, informed S Murmu, Civil SurgeonBokaro district.
Suspected patient Khageshwar Saw is admitted at BGH while DeepanshiSingh, Jaitoon Khatoon and Arkdeo are admitted in the private nursinghomes.
“Blood samples of all suspected cases have been collected andsent for test further,” he added.
Few days’ earlier one case of dengue fever traced at Ranipokar and testedpositive. Presently three more suspected cases form Ranipokar and one
Anita Kumar (24) a resident of Sector 12 were admitted at the hospitaland now under observation, he said.
The district health department issued an alert, closely monitoring theareas from where the fever was reported and found the factors leadingthe spurt in the mosquito-borne disease.
Precautionary measures are beingtaken to control dengue. Soon we will send our teams for fogging and toconduct surveys in the city as well as villages, he said.
“We have sought public support in controlling the menace of vector-borne diseases and also sent a letter to the civic body for participating inthe campaign to fight against it,” he added.
People generally use mosquito repellents at night but due to changes inclimatic conditions, they must use it during the day hours as the Aedesmosquito bites in the daytime too,” said Civil Surgeon.
Dengue fever (DF) is a viral disease transmitted by infected mosquitoes.
DF causes severe, flu-like symptoms with high fever and extreme muscleand joint pain. Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shocksyndrome (DSS) are less common but more severe forms of thedisease. DHF or DSS initially present with very similar symptoms to DF.
The disease then progresses to a stage where the blood vessels becomepermeable causing a breakdown of the circulatory system, fluid loss, and possibly death, he said.
