Saryu Roy presses for making Jamshedpur municipal corporation

Wednesday, 17 October 2018 | PNS | Jamshedpur

State Food and Civil Supplies Minister has written to State Urban Development Minister CP Singh demanding that his department must consult him in the context of making Jamshedpur an industrial town or a municipal corporation.

While a petition has been filed before the Supreme Court by Jawahar Lal Sharma, a social worker of Jamshedpur, the District Development Department, Jharkhand Government has filed a counter-foothold before the Supreme Court on September 7, 2018.

Sharma has prayed to the Supreme Court that the city of Jamshedpur should be made an autonomous Municipal Corporation so that the people here can play their part in the formation of autonomous body by using their third franchise.

In his letter Roy has written, “I was hoping that as a representative of the Jamshedpur West Legislative Assembly, the City Development Department will consult me either fully or partly about the formation of a municipal corporation in Jamshedpur. I have been trying to get a meeting with you and the Chief Minister on this issue, but this has not happened so far. You are aware that my Legislative Assembly, the large land of Jamshedpur West, and the people living there will be affected by this decision of the Government”.

Roy has demanded meaningful intervention with a far-reaching and serious viewpoint so that the people of Jamshedpur can get their constitutional rights.
