The Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) is reeling under huge staff crunch as replied by Urban Minister Niranjan Pujari to a question of Rourkela MLA Dilip Ray in the State Assembly on Tuesday.
As per the reply of the Minister, the RMC has 670 sanctioned employees in various categories and 108 temporary and contractual workers, but in reality 157 permanent posts are lying vacant including Municipal Commissioner, engineers, etc.
Similarly as per Municipal Corporation Act while additional 108 posts are required but 81 are still lying vacant including three Deputy Commissioners, 10 Sanitary Inspectors, Chief Auditor, Assistant and Junior Engineers, Law Officer, Environment Officer, Community Organisers, etc.
Further, the Minister revealed that for 10,000 people 28 cleaning sweepers are required.
Accordingly, the RMC requires 868 sweepers but it is managing with only 335 sweepers. Besides, out of 45 Sweeper Zamadar posts, 34 are lying vacant while out of 45 Sweeper Supervisors 10 are vacant.
Moreover, while 20 Sanitary Inspectors are required, the work is managed with only six in practical, Ray pointed out.
