The State Election Commission has asked the State Government to ensure that the campaign and electioneering by the urban local body poll candidates ends at 5 pm on 16 November.
In a letter sent to all the District Magistrates who are also the district election officers, secretary of the state election commission Roshan Lal said that the election campaign by the candidates and holding of public meetings by them can be done till 48 hours before the end of voting.
In view of the polling being held on November 18, the campaign must end at 5 pm on November 16. SEC has also sent copies of the letter to the principal secretary home, secretary urban development and director general of police among others.
The elections for 84 ULBs in Uttarakhand would be held on November 18 from 9 am to 5 pm while the counting of votes and declaration of the results would be done on November 20.
The ULB elections would be held in seven municipal corporations, 39 municipal councils and 38 nagar panchayats spread across the State. A total of 2357840 voters would be eligible to exercise their franchise out of which 1148027 are females and 1209813 males.
The State Election Commission has declared 305 polling stations and 569 polling booths sensitive where elections are being held.
Similarly, 236 polling stations and 533 polling booths have been declared hyper-sensitive by the State Election Commission.
