Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani on Monday gave the details of the Statue of Unity, saying the 182-metre statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel would be the tallest statue of the world with top class tourist facilities in the area.
“The construction of the statue commenced in 2013 after iron and other scraps were collected from six lakh villages of the country. It took just four years to complete the statue near Sardar Sarovar dam,” he said.
Rupani said the Statue of Unity was based on a big building which housed a museum of Sardar Patel, who was instrumental in bringing 562 independent states in India under the fold of the country after Independence.
“There is a lift which can take 50 people at a time up to the bust of the statue from where people can witness the scenic beauty of the place and there is also an exhibition hall,” he said.
For the comfort of tourists, there is a tent city and a three-star hotel while 100 guides are being trained to help the tourists, Besides, a tribal market, valley of flowers and other attractions are also nearby.
