Students of DSJ call off hunger strike

Saturday, 22 September 2018 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The students of Delhi School of Journalism (DSJ) of Delhi University (DU), who were on hunger strike since Tuesday alleging lack of basic academic facilities like media lab and library in DSJ, have called off their strike after “assurances” from the administration.

However, the students have planned a massive protest on September 25 against the alleged high fees charged for the course and against fees levied on other things, said a student of DSJ. DSJ students claim that they are backed by couple of Member of Parliament (MP) and various student organisations like AISA, NSUI and others.

The DSJ which runs in self-finance mode has allegedly failed to provide its students with the basic amenities that are considered pre-requisite for any media school. The students alleged that they have no practical and field exposure and they are threatened of rustication by the officials of DSJ when they ask for internship and practicals.

While Manasvini M. Yogi, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), DSJ said that students are using the media lab at School of Open Learning (SOL) and the issue of library would also be sorted out by Monday. Administration assured that fully functional media lab would be ready within two months.

“As various branches of the same University we share many common infrastructures. Media lab at SOL is being used and our students who have visited the lab were very happy and satisfied with the standards and facilities,” she said. She informed that students are being sent to lab in batches.
