SA 19-year-old boy, Varun, was beaten to death for trying to intervene after a heated argument broke out between his cousin Jatin and his friend Deepanker around 3.15 pm over parking issue in Outer District’s Sultan Puri on Thursday, police said on Friday.
The victim was thrashed by two accused — Mannu and Ravi — and a few others who are yet to be identified, said sources, adding that Mannu and his friend arrived in the market on a scooty and stopped in front of them. “A heated argument broke out between them and they started hitting Jatin,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Seju P Kuruvilla said.
“On seeing this, Jatin’s friend Deepanker ran to Jatin’s residence and his cousin Varun came to the spot and tried to pacify the situation, but Mannu called his brother Ravi and others on the spot and started beating Varun,” the DCP added. After Varun became unconscious, the accused immediately fled the spot. The victim was admitted to Jaipur Golden Hospital where he died during treatment. He suffered injuries to his ribs and suffered severe internal bleeding.
Initially a case of attempt to murder was registered, but after his death, a murder case was registered, said Kuruvilla, adding multiple teams have been deployed to arrest the accused persons, police official said.
Following the incident, relatives and residents of Sultan Puri area protested outside the Sultan Puri police station. They blocked roads and threw stones at vehicles. Protesters alleged that Sultan Puri police staff are overlooking the illegal alcohol trade and gambling in the area due to which crime is increasing in the area. The situation was brought under control by police. Senior officials said teams have been formed to arrest the accused.
