Wednesday, 07 November 2018 | Lucknow | Pioneer News Service

A teenaged girl was hacked to death under mysterious circumstances and her body was found lying in a secluded place in Hardoi. While the family members claimed it to be ‘murder’, local police suspected it to be a case of ‘honour killing’. A case has been registered in this regard and body was sent for the post-mortem. Further investigations were on.

Reports said that Nauvat Singh Prajapati, hailing from Palimukimpur locality of Hardoi, is a potato farmer and has three sons Bunty, Ramu and Deputy and daughter Deepa. While all the three sons helped him in the farming, his only daughter Deepa used to maintain the accounts of the income through farming and also reportedly kept cash with her.

In the wee hours of Sunday, Deepa suddenly disappeared from home and when the family members learnt about it later in the morning, they claimed to have launched a hunt for her. Later, when the family members checked her belongings, they found over Rs 3 lakh in cash and ornaments worth several lakh rupees missing from the almirah.

On Monday evening, the family members recovered the body of Deepa lying in a pool of blood in the nearby fields. She was brutally hacked to death by sharp-edged weapons and an empty bottle of beer was also found lying nearby pointing that someone also consumed liquor at the spot, probably after killing the girl. The family revealed that during search of Deepa, they came in contact with a woman tantrik, hailing from Eta locality of Hardoi, who told them that Deepa was murdered and that her body was lying in some nearby fields. Later, they found her statement to be true. The cops, however, suspected foul play so they were trying to ascertain the location of the family members with the help of their call detail records. . Besides, police were also looking into ‘honour killing’ as a possible motive for the murder.

Meanwhile, in a separate case reported from Bijnore, a 60-year-old man was killed by his son in Seohara village following an argument over the former’s drinking habits, police said on Tuesday. Deceased Yashpal had an altercation with his son Rahul (37) on Monday after the latter tried to stop him from consuming alcohol, they said, adding that as the argument got heated, the son hit Yashpal with a spade. Yashpal was killed on the spot. The accused fled the scene after the incident and the matter was being investigated. The body was sent for the post-mortem and further investigations were on in that regard.
