Ahead of Assembly polls, farmers from across the State under banner of National Farmer’s Council gathered at Idgahbhata ground here on Tuesday to stage a demonstration to press for their charter of demands. Some of the farmers hailed from southern Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region.
The charter of demands of the farmers include loan waiver, enforcement of Swaminathan Commission recommendations with immediate effect, providing back the tractors seized by financial institutions, declaring Minimum Support Price (MSP) of paddy to Rs 2500 per quintal, providing 150% of the production cost for all the crops. Former Vishwa Hindu Parishad president, Praveen Togadia especially arrived in the city to extend support to the farmers.
