Traffic police work on developing mobile app to ease jam

Sunday, 23 September 2018 | PNS | Ranchi

To ease down the problem of traffic congestion that is witnessed by the commuters on a regular basis here, the city traffic police will launch an android based mobile application service in a month for real time monitoring of vehicular movement passing the major avenues during the rushed hours.

“The mobile application will be launched shortly with numerous features. The traffic police are working on the mobile application that will be immensely helpful for keeping the regular track record of the traffic situation here in the Capital City. The Quick Response System is being adopted to address the grievances for better traffic management,” said Traffic SP Sanjay Ranjan Singh.

Also, SSP Ranchi Anish Gupta had recently stated that in an attempt to get rid of regular traffic jam, soon a dedicated mobile application service that will provide a real time status of traffic conditions of 41 traffic check-posts will be launched for public convenient as well as for ensuring better traffic control and supervision of the State’s busiest city.

As per the plan, after the launch of the mobile application for traffic management, the traffic constables will be trained to feed the data related to traffic congestion (load on each route) from their respective traffic check-posts in a given time-frame. The activities and the data will be monitored from the Centralised Control Room (CCR), designed especially for addressing the public grievances related to traffic management system.

“The CCR has been decked up with Hi-tech facility and now for a time-being through Whatsapp Messenger Group, the traffic police constables have been trained to give regular updates on it. In addition, besides the mobile application launch, soon all the private FM radio channels will be also linked with the CCR for regular traffic updates,” added the Traffic SP.

Besides, recently, officials of United Kingdom had reviewed the proposal given by the Government of Jharkhand (GoJ) for cooperation in the Smart City Project especially focusing on the basics of traffic management system.

Under this, United Kingdom’s International Development Department has given the consent to provide technological support to improve the traffic system of the State’s cities after analyzing the details of a few selected cities. Secretary, Department of Urban Development, Planning and Housing Ajoy Kumar Singh had written to the foreign agency to provide technical assistance in chalking out a feasible draft for the State Capital’s traffic management system including for a few other cities in the first phase.

Notably, regardless of several measures adopted in the past to avert traffic congestion at the major routes during the peak hours in the State

Capital, the traffic police here are often seen juggling to manage the affair.

Meanwhile, according to the officials, closure of a few cut-points of major routes has doubled the problem of both commuters and the traffic cops. Moreover, encroachment alongside the busiest routes too here in Ranchi is a major problem in streamlining the traffic.
