A three day U-19 inter-school basketball championship began here from Thursday at St Jospeh’s co-ed school.

School Manager Father Ronald Cadorsa was present as the special guest on the occasion. Besides Principal of the school Father Varghese Shiju inaugurated the U-19 inter-school basket ball championship by lighting of the lamp. Father Codorsa was welcomed with gifting a plant sapling. Besides, the sports coaches of different schools were welcomed with flower bouquet.

The championship began with a musical performance. To boost up the confidence of the players, a motivational song ‘Khele Ji Chalo Khele, Jiya or Dil Lagake Hum Khele’ was performed by the students.

Father Codorsa while addressing the inaugural ceremony interacted with the students. He said that sports inspire and motivate lives of people. So every individual should have sportsmanship. He congratulated the participating teams and wished them luck for their performance. He then made an opening announcement of the tournament. It is to be noted that the tournament will have teams of 13-13 players.

Later, the students gave a colourful dance performance on western song leaving the audience totally enthralled.

The tournament opened with the match between girl’s category. The first match was played between St Josheph’s Co-ed School and Asia Pacific. Giving a tough fight to each other, Asia Pacific School emerged as the winner of the first match.

Next match was played under boy’s category. First match in this category was played between St Joseph’s Co-ed school and Anand Vihar School. In this match St Joseph’s Co-ed school bagged the winner’s title.
