All India Congress Committee (AICC) Women’s Cell National Chief and Member of Parliament from Silchar , Assam, Sushmita Dev had mocked the government schemes like Ujjawala and smart phone distribution while terming them as a ‘complete failure’.
She is in Chhattisgarh to lead the Congress party’s ‘Mahila Adhikar Yatras’ being taken out in all the 27 districts headquarters of the State.
Addressing media persons here at State Congress Office Rajiv Bhawan, Dev said as the subsidy of LPG gas cylinder under Ujjawala Scheme is only for once the beneficiaries are taking the benefit of the scheme and were dumping the gas stove in a corner as it were of no use further.
How could a poor family be able to purchase the cylinder for the second time for Rs 900, she questioned.
Regarding ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ campaign, the fund allocated to each of the district is on an average 43 lakh and thus the amount released for the girl child below 15 years of age is mere 5 paise. How situation of girl child would become better with this meager amount of assistance, she questioned.
The Yatra was launched in the state at Bilaspur on Thursday and was taken out in Rajnandgaon district headquarters on Friday. Asserting that the situation of women in the country have become more vulnerable and citing thereport of an international newswire service, she added women in India are less secure than the countries like Afghanistan and Syria.
