Ultra who killed CID officer in J&K held

Wednesday, 21 November 2018 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested a 28-year-old operative of terrorist organisation Hizbul-Mujahideen (HM) on Tuesday from Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The accused, Ansar Ul Haqe, was involved in the murder of a 30-year-old intelligence officer from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Jammu & Kashmir Police.

Police stated that they received information that Ansar would be arriving in Delhi from Bengaluru before leaving for Srinagar.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah revealed that on October 28, this year, a 30-year-old intelligence officer Sub-Inspector (SI) Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, working with CID was found shot dead in Chewa Kalan area. He was reportedly abducted by terrorists and murdered in cold blood.

"SI Mir was moved to CID department in March this year and was known for his dedication towards his work. He was leaving for his village Puwana when he was way laid and kidnapped by armed terrorists. He was warned against venturing into his village as there was a possibility of attack by militant groups, who have been targeting policemen in the state recently," said the DCP.

When he was on his way, he was entrapped by the accused and his girlfriend who were also from the same village. The girlfriend identified as Syed Saika asked Imtiyaz to drop her enroute to Puwana and leaked his location to Ansar, who further tipped off  HM terrorists. On crossing Karimabad, he was intercepted by terrorists and killed.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Ansar was a post graduate in English and was recently married. He was a political worker but was later influenced by a HM commander Wajid, and he came in contact with the HM operatives.

"He was in regular contact with other HM terrorists Liaqat, Shau Cable, Shahid Ahmad Baba, Zahid Tiger and Zahur. He used to pass information to the HM commanders about the movement of security forces and local police officers," said the DCP.

"In October, 2018, he was directed by Zahur Thokar, an HM commander to provide movement details of Imtiyaz. Accused roped in his girlfriend Syed Saika for this task as she had acquaintance with the deceased Sub Inspector. On learning that he was traveling toward Pulwana, she requested him to drop her.

She then informed Ansar, who informed HM militants who intercepted him and killed him," said the DCP.
