UP Police recruitment to begin soon

Facilitating a record 20 per cent seats reserved for females in recruitment in UP Police, the state government on Thursday announced vacancy of about 1 lakh post and announced that the process for the appointment for 52,000 personnel will begin soon. The government also announced the examination date and process for appointment of constables.

The announcement was made jointly by Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar and DGP OP Singh at a press conference in Lucknow on Thursday morning. Kumar said that there were 97,000 posts lying vacant in the UP Police. He said that recruitment started for 51.216 police constables and the selection process was already underway. “There are a total of 2.29 lakh posts of constables in UP Police, of which 97,000 are vacant,” he informed.

Recently, UP government had promoted 37,500 constables to the post of head constable this year.

The Principal Secretary (Home) said that due to shortage of policemen, there was difficulty in allowing them weekly off. He admitted that the situation in Fire Services and Prison departments was serious as there were 38 per cent vacancies in Fire Services and about 50 per cent vacancy in Prison department. He also said that due to shortage of force in Provincial Armed Constabulary, 74 of the total 273 PAC companies were on the verge of closure.

Kumar said that now with the government’s fresh initiative, 30 of these 70 PAC companies, which were on the verge of closure, would soon start functioning with full force. The top official said that on the CM’s initiatives, a plan was chalked out to fill all vacant posts so that within the next few years, there were no shortage of manpower in the force and law and order situation in the state could be improved.

Kumar said that written exam for 51,216 police constables would be held at 482 exam centres of 16 districts of the state on October 25 and 26. The exams will be held in three sessions. The result of the examination will be announced on December 1 and the final list will be declared by December 15.

Of the new appointment to be made, 20 per cent will be reserved for women while other reservations will be applicable as per the norms.

DGP OP Singh said that the recruitment and appointment of 97000 UP Police constables would be completed by August 2019 and the process would start from November this year. The written exams will be held on January 8 and 9 next year and results will be declared in July, 2019.

Of the new appointments, 3638 constables will be for Prison which will include 3012 males and 626 females. At present, against 6490 posts of males constables in Prison department, 3514 posts are lying vacant while against 721 females staff, only 96 are doing their duty while the rest of the posts were vacant. Besides, 1679 firemen for Fire Services department will also be recruited. The relaxation in age will be given to those candidates who had cleared the last examination for selection of constables.
