It was a moment of great joy for the entire Sainik School Tilaiya fraternity when one of their illustrious Cadets, Vice Admiral Narayan Prasad, AVSM NM took charge as Director General Naval Projects. Group Capt S Jacob, Principal, Sainik School Tilaiya was a very happy man today for the first time an Ex- Tilaiyan in the Navy has been promoted to the rank of a Vice Admiral. Jacob remarked that the achievement of Vice Admiral Narayan Prasad is a beacon that would illuminate the path for the budding Tilaiyans at this school and they too would work hard to bring glory to their alma-mater.
Vice Admiral Narayan Prasad took charge as DGNP during a formal ceremony at the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) Office on 15 Oct 18.
Vice Admiral Narayan Prasad was commissioned in the Indian Navy as an Engineering Officer on Ist July 1983. He holds a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering and is also an M.Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies. An alumnus of Sainik School Tilaiya and National Defence Academy, he has held various important positions in the Navy, including Operations, Staff, Dockyard and Strategic Projects. He severed on-board frontline warships, such as INS Talwar, INS Ranjit, INS Rana and also served as Fleet Engineering Officer. Prior to this appointment, Vice Admiral Narayan Prasad served as the Assistant Chief of Material (Nuclear System Maintenance) at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) in Delhi and Admiral Superintendent of Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam and Chief Staff Officer (Technical), ENC, according to a press release issued by the Sainik School, Tilaiya.
