Vishwakarma Puja got off to a colourful start in Paradip on Monday with various organisations and industries putting up their Pandals and celebrating the festival with great religious fervour.
The Puja will continue for next six days with cultural programmes like melodies, Jatras and stage shows by cine artists being organised at all the Pandals to attract the crowds.
Factories, garages, the engineering department of the Paradip Port Trust along with various trade unions have put up huge Pandals decorated colourfully across the township.
Police have made elaborate arrangements for traffic and crowd management, CCTV cameras have been installed at various points to keep a vigil on the crowds. A police control room, medical centres, information centres have been opened to help general public. The Paradip Municipality has ensured civic facilities such as supply of electricity, drinking water, public toilets for Puja revellers.
Paradip town is famous for its Vishwakarma Puja with rituals being observed for a week since the mid-1960s. People from different communities join hands in celebrating the festival, thereby promoting communal harmony among residents.
