Will unite Opp to make Mayawati PM: Chautala

Monday, 08 October 2018 | PNS | Chandigarh

Indian National Lok Dal chief and former Haryana Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala on Sunday said that his party will work towards bringing the opposition parties together to make BSP supremo Mayawati the next Prime Minister after the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Om Parkash Chautala, who is out on a two-week parole, was addressing a rally organised in Gohana at Sonepat to mark the 105th birth anniversary of INLD’s founder and former deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal.

Convicted on corruption charges in the infamous Haryana teachers recruitment scam and undergoing 10 years sentence in Tihar jail, Chautala had recently came out on parole.

"We will work towards uniting the opposition so that Mayawati becomes the next Prime Minister," OP Chautala said while addressing the rally.

He said that Devi Lal had a dream that the countrymen should have enough food, shelter, good education and access to affordable health. Today, he is not amongst us but we have to follow his ideals and work towards realising his dreams, he added.

Earlier, the INLD chief attacked the Congress for allegedly conspiring against him and sending him to jail.

He advised the party workers to go full throttle for the polls and warned that indiscipline will invite strict action.

The INLD president's son and senior party leader Abhay Singh Chautala while addressing the rally, urged the people to help the INLD-BSP alliance to come to power in Haryana with an overwhelming majority in next year's assembly elections.

"Repeat 1987 (when the INLD swept the state polls) by strengthening the hands of the INLD-BSP combine so that (Om Prakash) Chautala once again becomes the Chief Minister," he said.

He promised that if the INLD-BSP combine comes to power in Haryana, it will waive the loans of farmers.

The INLD leader also promised one government job for every family and Rs 15000 unemployment allowance for educated youth in the state.

The INLD has been fighting for Haryana's rightful share of Satluj-Yamuna Link waters, but the Centre and Haryana Governments are not serious about completion of the canal, Abhay Singh Chautala alleged.

Eyeing political revival after being out of power since 2005, the INLD had in April announced to join hands with the BSP for 2019 crucial polls. The INLD had announced to contest Lok Sabha polls and assembly polls in Haryana in alliance with the BSP.

Notably, INLD chief and former Chief Minister OP Chautala along with  his son Ajay Chautala are currently serving 10-year jail sentence after being convicted, in teacher recruitment scam.

Former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela, while addressing the rally spoke about his close association with Devi Lal and his family for over four generations and said the INLD leader understood the pain of farmers and common masses.

Vaghela also attacked the Centre over high fuel prices and said the cut of Rs 2.50 per litre in the petrol and diesel prices is not sufficient.
