Making best use of recyclable materials, the oldest puja pandal of the Capital City – Chandrashekar Azad Puja Pandal known for its exemplary art works and décor has yet again come up with an innovative concept. The puja pandal being decked up here since 1971 has converted the dreamy archaic shrine with the use of wooden beats.
Crafted out aesthetically with use of wooden materials – beats and ply boards, the puja pandal has miniscule art-forms designed on the walls of the pandal representing the rich glory of different creative art-forms. With special focus on interior decoration, the sundry look has been augmented with colourful light effects and designer knick-knacks.
The puja pandal measures 70 feet in height and is 50 feet in width. The beautiful structure has been primed up at a whopping cost of Rs. 10 lakh. Over 35 artists of West Bengal have decorated the puja pandal giving it a whole distinct identity.
In the midst of the popular picks, the theme set up to fascinate the leisure buffs has been designed with the use of biodegradable materials ranging from clay to bamboo sticks. Besides the main theme, sculpts of deities have been given metallic finish matching the interior decor. The exterior decoration has been given wooden touch finish. The puja pandal was inaugurated amidst much fanfare on ‘Shasthi’ (sixth day of puja).
Located in the heart of the Capital City, this puja pandal pulls ample crowd each year. According to the puja samiti members, special illumination effects have been combined with the theme for more realistic presentation. Nearly two archways have been decorated at the entrance gate of the puja pandal while 20 small porches have been adorned inside the premises of the pandal with light and sound technology.
“With no use of synthetic and harmful substances, the striking antiquated temple has been crafted out with bulk use of wooden materials showcasing the blend of different architectural heritages, art and crafts types. With different colour combination and lighting effects, the deities have been given a unique look. The figurines costs approximately Rs. 2.25 lakh,” said, president, Chandrashekhar Azad puja pandal samiti, Ramesh Singh.
