Yogi assures slain inspector’s family of speedy justice

Friday, 07 December 2018 | PNS | Lucknow

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath met the family members of slain Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh in Lucknow on Thursday and assured them strict action against the assailants who stoked violence in Bulandshahr that left the cop and a youth dead on Monday.

The slain cop’s son Shrey Kumar Singh said that the Chief Minister assured justice to them. “Yogi ji said that strict action will be taken against the culprits and they will not be spared at any cost,” Shrey Singh told reporters after the meeting with the Chief Minister at his 5, Kalidas Marg official residence here on Thursday morning.

A government spokesman said that the Chief Minister assured the family that a road and a college would be named after the martyred inspector.

The Chief Minister also assured them that the state government would take care of the education of both sons of the slain inspector and also repay a house loan of Rs 30 lakh.

Singh’s elder son Abhishek is preparing for Civil Services examination while the younger one is pursuing a law course.

The government has already announced extra-ordinary pension for the family, Rs 40 lakh to the widow of the deceased inspector and Rs 10 lakh to the cop’s parents.

“As the cop’s parents have passed away, this amount will also be given to his wife,” the government spokesman said.

During the meeting with the Chief Minister, the martyred cop’s widow, Rashmi, revealed that Singh had arrested three people on charges of cow slaughter and that night he had got a call from a local MLA.

“As he was in the washroom, I told him about the call later,” she said, hinting at a possible link between that call and the violence that took place later.

Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies, Atul Garg, who is also in-charge of Etah district to which the Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh belonged, addressed the media along with Director General of Police OP Singh here on Thursday.

“The Chief Minister has assured the family that education of children and house loan will be taken care of by the government. Besides, a college will also be named after Inspector Singh,” Garg said.

The DGP said, “We in the police force are like a family. Besides an extraordinary pension, we have also offered a job to a kin of the slain cop. But since the sons are studying, we have left it to their discretion.”
