Jagatpur flyover opens to public

Sunday, 23 September 2018 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

The much awaited 1.2 km Jagatpur flyover on Outer Ring Road, connecting Mukarba Chowk to Wazirabad in North Delhi, was thrown open to the public by the Minister of Public Works Department, Satendar Jain on Saturday.

“The flyover is part of signal free scheme in which grade separators at Bhalswa, Mukundpur and Burari have already been opened for traffic. To work in marshy land was a challenge near Jagatpur Village. Marshy land on village side was stabilised and strengthened by using construction waste generated from the project. Approximately 1000 cum of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste has been utilised,” said a senior PWD official.

According to the officials, the stretch will reduce carbon dioxide emissions and will provide smooth and uninterrupted movement of traffic on this junction by which around 2 tons of carbon dioxide emission will be curbed per day.

Further the three way grades separator will facilitate easy movement for the people living nearby the dense populated areas of Jagatpur Village, Sangam Vihar, Wazirabad Village, Jharoda, Nathupura and Sant-Nagar to Outer Ring Road.

“This was considered essential in view of the fact that the Jagatpur Village Road (ROW 100m as per MPD 2021) is an important connectivity considering the future development of the area which is part of Zone P2 in the zonal Developmental Plan of DDA. Further, the Flyover will provide unhindered movement to CC Parallel Road,” added the official.

The budget of this 1.2 km stretch is Rs 72 crores. The construction was started in 2014 and completed within a period of three years in August this year. The two lane separators are Jagatpur Village, Sangam Vihar, Jharoda, Wazirabad, Nathupura, Burari, Sant Nagar.
