Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken wrote a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to reduce the VAT on petrol and diesel.
“To the same level as it was in December, 2013, during the Congress regime in Delhi” to provide relief to the people of Delhi, instead of continuing to play his characteristic “fixed match” with the Lt Governor and the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP),” Makan mentioned in his letter to Kejriwal.
Maken also pointed out that the VAT charged on petrol in Delhi is 27 per cent and that on diesel is 16.5 per cent, while the same during the Congress regime in Delhi was 20 per cent and 12 per cent, respectively.
While releasing a letter of Ajay Makan addressed to CM Kejriwal, Chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee, said that the Congress party had been repeatedly asking the Modi Government to bring petroleum products under GST, but it has not been done, and as a result, petrol and diesel are cheaper in Noida and Haryana than in Delhi, as different States have varying tax structures.
