Need convincing? Ask God

God’s existence is manifest in the efforts He consistently makes to help each individual in a unique way. Each time we feel that we are stuck, we know that He is watching over us, writes AJIT KUMAR BISHNOI

Who knows about someone better than that person? None other. Therefore, if we really want to know about God to get convinced about His existence, then, whom should we talk to? God of course! God is quite pleased to respond. He has already done so in some detail in the Gita, and He is still prepared to respond directly to us if we are really keen. We have been told that God knows the past, the present and the future. Nostradamus wanted to know about the future. He couldn’t do it by himself. So, what did he do? He is said to have remained awake for several years, meditating over a brass bowl filled with water. This was like ‘tapasya’ that our saints have been doing for ages. And what happened? God, who can see the future, showered him with kindness and allowed him to see future events like Hitler’s rise to power and the explosion of the US shuttle challenger in 1986. This act of God has convinced us about His ability to know the past, the present and the future.

Baba Vanga has been another extraordinary soothsayer who got connected with God. She had claimed that her extraordinary abilities including making accurate predictions were due to the information she received from some source (read God). She could also tell the life story of anyone standing in front of her from birth to death like a film. Who could have known that except God? She foretold the breakup of the Soviet Union, the Chernobyl disaster, the date of Stalin’s death, the sinking of the Russian submarine Kursk, the September 11 attacks in America and Topolov’s victory in the World Chess Tournament.

What else do we know about God? Let us see if we can test some of them from our past experiences. I have done this exercise and this is what I have found out. Lord Krishna told Arjuna to get up and just be His instrument. (Gita 11.33) I have a somewhat similar experience when I get some realisation from God and sit down to write about it. Points come thick and fast and a nice structure is in place. For an article, I have to just put pen to paper. Without being proud, sometimes I marvel at how I, an engineer, have been chosen for this privilege.

Like most people, I tend to get confused/deluded. Whom do I turn to? The Lord makes me write down everything that I feel. Slowly, I get the answers from the One who knows. Then, I meditate some more and I know what to do. Same is true about memory. I am in the fourth stage of my life. Lots of events have taken place in my life. When I am forced into a difficult situation, the merciful Lord reveals what got me out of trouble earlier when faced with similar difficulties. Is bewilderment not what comes before loss of intelligence and subsequent doom? (2.63) God provides; He surely does. Whatever I need somehow becomes available with not much effort. (9.22) This fact makes me wonder and I feel greatly humbled by such grace. Whatever I need somehow becomes available with not much effort. (9.22) God helps like no one can.
