Japanese man skips rope 151,409 times in 24 hours

A Japanese jump rope enthusiast broke a Guinness world record for most skips over a rope in 24 hours when he hit a total of 151,409 skips. Hijiki Ikuyama, 36, who has previously broken numerous rope-skipping world records, alternated between using a larger rope held by assistants and using his own smaller rope when he spent 24 hours working to beat Isabel Bush’s record of 151,036 skips.

“It was so tough I had to take 10-minute breaks every 20 minutes,” Ikuyama said. “The guidelines allowed me to skip a large rope spun by assistants so the plan was to alternate between a large rope and short rope.”

“But for the long rope, we didn’t practice together beforehand, and we couldn’t synchronise properly so I kept on trapping the rope and losing time,” he said. “Eight hours before the end of the attempt, I ditched the large rope and skipped solo — I thought I have to go and push the limit,” Ikuyama said. He finished with a total 151,409 skips, enough to take the record. Ikuyama said his interest in the sport began at a young age.

“I had a crush on my teacher, and I was thinking of ways to get some attention from her. Because she was pretty good at rope skipping, I thought mastering that would impress her,” he said.

Montana woman rescues llama

A pack llama that escaped from a guided hike in southern Yellowstone National Park in August was rescued by a Montana outfitter last weekend, just days before most of the park’s entrances were to close for winter preparations.

“I just had to help him,” Susi Huelsmeyer-Sinay with Yellowstone Llamas in Bozeman, Montana, said Friday. “He was abandoned.”

Wilderness Ridge Trail Llamas owner Kirstin Baty of Idaho Falls, Idaho, tells the Jackson Hole News & Guide that Ike ran off after guides loosened his halter because it irritated the spot of a previously abscessed tooth.

Meth found hidden inside canned foods at Texas airport

Customs agents inspecting cargo shipments at a Texas airport said they found 66.3 pounds of meth hidden inside canned foods. US Customs and Border Protection said officer and agriculture specialists were inspecting a shipment of canned foods from Mexico at Houston Intercontinental Airport on Tuesday and discovered a can of tomato puree had irregular weight distribution.

The can was opened and a liquid substance that started crystallising inside tested positive for methamphetamine. More meth was found inside cans of tomato puree, hominy and mole, officials said. The 66.3 pounds of meth had an estimated street value of $225,000. “This particular seizure illustrates how well trained, experienced and committed to our mission that our CBP agriculture specialists are,” Houston Area Port Director Raymond S Polley said. “His attention to detail resulted in the prevention of over 66 pounds of methamphetamines from ending up in the hands of our community.”
