AAI's Women Wing-Kalyanmayee launches Menstrual Hygiene Project

The Airports Authority of India Women's Welfare Association, has launched ‘Kalyanmayee’, a sanitary napkin usage and menstrual hygiene project. This three-year project aims to create awareness about menstrual hygiene practices and bursting the myths and taboo attached to menstruation. The project provides alternative low cost, lab tested napkins. The project also includes installation of sanitary napkin vending machines and incinerators in schools in 20 cities and conducting awareness camps in the slum areas. Some of these locations include Amritsar, Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Trivandrum and Mangalore.

Rumi's work now consolidated in India

The Kala Nidhi Division of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), organised the launch of the book—‘A Descriptive Catalogue of the Manuscripts and Editions of Maulana Jalaluddin Rumi's Works in India’, by Prof S H Qaseami and Dr Ramesh C Gaur. This is the first such catalogue on Rumi's works in India. His Excellency Ambassador of Republic of Turkey, Sakir Ozkan Torunlar, and His Excellency Ambassador of Iran, Dr Ali Chegeni, along with the director of UNESCO New Delhi Cluster office, Eric Falt, and the MS of IGNCA, Dr Sachchidanand Joshi, formally released the book.

NAQVI pats NHRC's back

The Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi praised the work done by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to promote a culture of human rights since its inception. He was speaking at the Human Rights Day Function organised by the NHRC in New Delhi which was attended by the NHRC chairperson, Justice H L Dattu, senior officials and a large number of intellectuals from different fields. Naqvi said, “The NHRC has always played an active role in protection of human rights of the people of the country. The NHRC also organises Camp Sittings and Open Public Hearings in different state capitals at regular intervals to ensure speedy disposal of cases.” He further added that it is encouraging that the NHRC has selected 28 most backward districts in the country to spread awareness about human rights in the administration and to monitor the effectiveness of the various socio-economic welfare programmes of the government.

SCOPE Organises Workshop on Occupational Safety & Health

SCOPE organised a national workshop on occupational safety and health titled—‘Strengthening Safer and Healthier Workforce’ at Lucknow. The workshop was organised with the support of the Ministry of Labour and Employment (DGFASLI) and the International Labour Organisation. The director general of SCOPE, Dr U D Choubey, while inaugurating the workshop, highlighted the importance of occupational safety and health in the public sector enterprises. He suggested that a board level review should take place periodically on all the initiatives taken by the company.

Conference on Smart City Standardisation

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the International Electrotechnical Commission jointly organised the ‘BIS-IEC International Conference on Smart City Standardisation' on December 10 in Varanasi which was inaugurated by the secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Durga Shanker Mishra. Mishra stated that the standardisation efforts in India need to be prioritised with habitat being top priority, followed by mobility, smart infrastructure and ICT and governance. He assured the participation of the MoHUA officials and the CEOs of the smart cities in this effort of the BIS.

NTPC bags 7 awards by PRSI for 2018

NTPC has bagged seven awards in different categories at the 40th All India Public Relations Conference, which was organised by the Public Relations Society of India (PRSI) from December 8 to 10 at Dehradun. The NTPC Corporate Communication received the second prize for NTPC CSR Coffee Table Book as a Special/ Prestige Publication and for the internal communication application—SAMVAAD and the third prize for its company website. The NTPC Projects and Regional Head Quarter received four awards—the NTPC Vindhyachal won the first prize for ‘Best CSR' for child care; second prize was awarded to NTPC Rihand Corporate Film (Hindi); the third prize was awarded for the ‘Best e-newsletter NTPC-NR' and the ‘Best Public Awareness Campaign' award was given to NTPC- Rihand.

NTPC's Singrauli station records 100% PLF in Nov

The flagship power station of the NTPC, Singrauli Super Thermal Power Station, has achieved 100.32 per cent plant load factor (PLF) in the month of November. The 2000 MW station has five units of 200 MW and two units of 500 MW. The NTPC-Singrauli continues to deliver the rated performance even after 36 years of operations. The first 200 MW unit of the station was synchronised in 1982.

EAST HIMALAYAN EXPO to boost trade in the region

The 10th edition of the East Himalayan Expo-2018 is being organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) with the support of the Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Meghalaya from December 10 to 17 in Shillong, Meghalaya. The expo, inaugurated by the Governor of Meghalaya, Tathagata Roy, aims to widen trade horizons and enhance business links in the Eastern Himalayan region especially when there is a focus of the Government on ‘Act East Policy'. With over 200 leading companies from the North East region, this year, the expo elicited triple response as compared to the last edition.

1st Media school for Dalits and Tribals

The Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Thaawarchand Gehlot, announced the commencement of nationwide admissions in the Dr B R Ambedkar School of Media Empowerment, to train Dalit and tribal youths. This, first-of-its-kind school to train these communities in journalism, is supported by the Indian Institute for Mass Communication (IIMC). The school will have its branches in Pune, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and other parts of India.
