Restaurants bring Munich’s folk festival Oktoberfest to the streets of Delhi

Oktoberfest is one of the few festivals where drinking is downright celebrated. It has been happening in Munich, Germany since 1810 and you know it is around the corner when beer starts flowing freely and the crowd goes crazy. The  16 to 18 day folk festival runs from mid or late September to the first weekend in October, with more than six million people from around the world attending the event every year.

Don’t worry if you can’t make it to Munich because Delhi celebrates the chugging festival Munch-style right here.

It’s time for beer, and more beer right? The fortnight-long fiesta is full of fun activities like, dart games, quizzes, beer guzzling competition, music performances, and much more along with authentic German beer and food.

The 15-day festival kicked off with a band performance by Astitva on September 21 and the celebrations will go on till October 7. Along with chugging fresh and frothy pints of endless beer and food, there will be live band performances, stilt walkers, unicycle jugglers and magician shows to set the right tone of celebrations. The area is decked up with colourful installations and there will be musical performances, Illusionist, Giant Jenga, Brew pong tournament and many other activities. DJ Gunjan accompanied by percussionist, LED Drummer, electric dhol and violinist will perform on October 5.

1911, at the Imperial, New Delhi is geared up for a German feast as the executive chef Prem K Pogakula has crafted a combination of hand-crafted cuisine with a glass of beer.
